Appalachia Rising Community Festival

On June 10th, 2017, join us for the 2nd annual Appalachia Rising Festival and the first RAW Gauntlet Obstacle Course Race.  This family friendly event features a day of outdoor fun and education.  Play on an exciting obstacle course, or join the competitive race, swim in the pond, and enjoy the farm atmosphere. Expeirence local artisanal food, Ohio craft beer, live music, free play on the recreation grounds, plus scheduled kids activities and games, and adult sustainable living educational walks and talks.

Food and Beverages for Sale:

Solid Ground Farm and local food carts will be serving up delicious regional dishes, including some special mulberry inspired meals thanks to a SARE agricultural grant.  Ohio craft beer for sale for those of age and delicious local soda for the kids.  Please, do not bring your own alcoholic beverages.

Festival admission is $10/person (proceeds allow us to offer free RAW Camp tuition to those in need).  Limited onsite parking is available for a fee. A free shuttle (15 passenger van) will run every 20 minutes from the Athens County Job and Family Services parking lot on 13.

Please, carpool and drive slowly and carefully on Liars Corner Rd.

Please, come prepared for a fun day outside.  We suggest you bring a swimsuit and towel if you want to swim or play on some of the water obstacles, a lawn chair or blanket (we will have seating at the food court), and a change of clothes for you and your kids as everyone may get muddy playing on the obstacles.  Bring an ID if you plan to drink beer and some cash (we can also take Visa and Mastercard, but cash is easier).  Food will be for sale throughout the day,

Tentative Schedule:

12pm: Obstacle course open for free play and practice.  Obstacle course open for free play all day except during the Main Event (6pm),
1pm: Obstacle course qualifying runs begin.  Heats begin promptly at 1,2, and 3pm
3pm: Farm tour and mulberry agroforestry talk with Weston Lombard
4pm: Live music begins with Ugata Drum Crew (full schedule below)
4:30pm: Largest boffing battle of all time.  Kids and adults welcome.  Make a sword beforehand, bring your own, or borrow one of ours.
6pm: RAW Gauntlet Main Event: Cheer on these great athletes as they exhibit feats of daring and athleticism for a chance at the title.
8pm: Headlining Band
9:30pm: Bonfire and last call
10pm: Close

RAW Gauntlet Obstacle Course Race.

The race is an obstacle course contest in the style of Ninja Warrior with an Appalachian feel.  Competitors are timed as they run through over 20 obstacles in a 1/2 mile sprint.  Participants will test their balance, strength, agility, and endurance against other athletes of all kinds.  Come check it out as a racer or spectator and enjoy the farm and festivities.

Prizes for fastest in each division.
Fastest overall male and female will be crowned RAWest.

Schedule: Must sign up for one of the below heats
1pm: Heat 1
2pm: Heat 2
3pm: Heat 3
6pm: Main Event (must qualify in one of the heats)

-During qualifying heats the whole group of competitors attempts and is timed on each obstacle one at a time.  Once the group has moved through every obstacle, times for each individual are added together and the fastest from each division advances to the Main Event.

6pm: Main Event: Winners from each heat race through the entire course for a chance at the title.  Fastest time in each division wins a prize and is recognized as the RAWest.

12 and under ($10, includes festival admission)
13-17 ($20, includes festival admission)
18 and up men’s and women’s ($25, includes festival admission)
